We're thrilled to announce the launch of a new Open Educational Resource (OER) Let's Talk Careers, designed to add interactivity to the Let's Talk Careers podcast, making it a richer learning experience.
The OER links to podcast episodes and offers interactive exercises about content from the interviews; this ensures that key learning objectives are reinforced for students. Starting with two episodes, this resource will continue to grow as more episodes are transformed into chapters.
The podcast is dedicated to helping students gain insight from professionals in nursing, post-secondary education, business, teaching, trades, and much more. In the podcast, Lisa Bauman, professor in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and author of this OER expansion, and colleague Claudia Melland use the 4-quadrant method of informational interviews to talk to their guests and gain insights from them.
This method helps structure the conversation between the interviewer and interviewee into four discussion areas - background, current role, future outlook, and advice. This structure also allows viewers to understand the content better.
Bauman shares, "I am motivated to produce this resource because of our guests on the podcast. Our guests share incredible insights and experiences worth exploring so readers can apply them to their own lives."
The incredible number of perspectives and insights gained from professionals in different fields make this a valuable resource.
Bauman believes in sharing knowledge with everyone to empower others.
She says, "Keeping the resource open allows a broader audience and empowers others to continue expanding on the ideas shared."
Faculty are encouraged to integrate this OER into their teaching materials or suggest it as a supplementary tool for students; it is flexible and adaptable.
We invite you to incorporate this new resource into your curriculum or personal learning journey. You can also explore the podcast series on Spotify and YouTube.
