Updated OER Helps Students Navigate the World of Work

We are excited to announce the publication of Career Guide for Health and Wellness Office Administrative Professionals, 2nd edition.

This open educational resource (OER) helps guide college students as they embark on their career journey.

Author Ellen Dilgert, Professor for the Health Office Administration and Medical Office Practices Program in the School of Business, published the first edition in 2022. At that time, it was an adaptation of Algonquin College’s Be the Boss of Your Career: A Complete Guide for Students.

Since then, the OER has been visited by over 4,400 unique visitors. While this OER is specific to Canadian office work environments, it is applicable to students in any field.

And it’s no wonder it’s so popular. It takes students through the steps to find and keep their dream job, from creating persuasive career documents to effective interview techniques. Along with practical tips, this OER has downloadable job search tools that help students in their career development journey.

Professor Dilgert worked with Rachel Stuckey in Open Learning to optimize content in this new edition, with a focus on increasing engagement and making learning more active. “I value organization,” she shares, “and felt that reorganizing the content into more concise chapters would make it easier to read and absorb.”

The OER is free to access and available for download. “Post-secondary education is costly” says Professor Dilgert. “The financial demands create challenges for students. I believe in meeting students where they are and providing barrier-free access to learning materials.”

Share Career Guide for Health and Wellness Office Administrative Professionals, 2nd edition with your students today.
