At Writing Services, we often encourage students to use Grammarly Premium to help them identify and correct sentence-level writing errors. We find it can be a very effective tool to help with spelling, grammar, tone, and style. We recommend that students read Grammarly’s explanations and decide if they want to implement a particular suggestion instead of simply accepting all suggestions. Students, staff, and faculty have free access to Grammarly Premium through the Conestoga Library.
It is not considered plagiarism if students use Grammarly Premium. It is, however, up to each individual faculty member to decide if Grammarly Premium can be used in assignments, and if students should acknowledge in an assignment that they’ve used this tool.
We think it is important to distinguish between Grammarly Premium and Grammarly GO for students. Grammarly GO is an AI tool that generates text based on prompts (similar to ChatGPT); it doesn’t simply offer suggestions for spelling, grammar, etc. At Writing Services, we do not encourage students to use Grammarly GO. Students do not have access to this version of Grammarly through the Library.
