Faculty Support: Updating EBSCOhost Links

Although we've moved to a new search platform, Page 1+, most URLs previously copied from the library's search platform and various databases will continue to function. Only URLs to resources found on the EBSCOhost platform are affected and will need to be modified prior to December 31, 2022.

Checking Your EBSCOhost URLs

To assess your URLs, It's key to look at URLs as they are embedded in your page or document, rather than clicking them to observe their structure in your browser address bar. Database URLs pass through an authentication process after clicking them which changes their structure and will make it difficult to edit them accurately.

EBSCOhost URLs

Our previous search platform was provided by EBSCOhost, which continue to supply many of our individual research databases. However, since the search platform itself has been migrated to Page 1+, URLs copied from that platform will cease to function after December 31, 2022.

Example of an EBSCOhost URL that needs to be edited

The URL below comes from our previous search platform. To determine if your URL needs to be changed, look for eds-live in the URL string. If that phrase is present, the URL will need to be adjusted. If eds-live is not present, your URL does not need to be adjusted.

It may look like this:

https://conestoga.idm.oclc.org/login?qurl=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=edsgao&AN=edsgcl.640012841&site=eds-live&scope=site

or this:

https://conestoga.idm.oclc.org/login?qurl=https%3a%2f%2fsearch.ebscohost.com%2flogin.aspx%3fdirect%3dtrue%26db %3dedsgao%26AN%3dedsgcl.640012841%26site%3deds-live%26scope%3dsite

Example of an EBSCOhost URL that does not need to be changed

The URL below goes ts to the same article above. However, eds-live is not present in the URL. This means this URL goes to the source database, rather than the old search platform. It does not need to be changed in order to function past December 31, 2022.

Correcting Your URLs

If you suspect your EBSCOhost URL needs to change, the quickest method to locate the correct URL is to search for the article again within our full collection of EBSCOhost databases. You can search all databases at once using the link below.

When you locate the article or book you need, copy the persistent link ("permalink"), accessed in the article or detailed record view from the right-hand side bar of the platform.

For further information and visuals on this process, consult our help page below.

Request Help

This doesn't have to be a DIY project! Faculty who would like support locating the correct link can submit details using the form below.

Note that providing your existing URLs should be sufficient for us to locate the replacement URL. However, this is only the case for work completed prior to the December 2022 holiday closure. After that date, we will require further citation details (e.g. Title, author, publication, year)  to locate a new URL to replace the old one.
