Why Do I Need to Track, Cite and Reference?

Acknowledging the work of others helps you make connections and reinforce your learning. It also allows for the creation and development of knowledge by allowing scholars to fact-check claims and trace the origins of ideas and research. By citing and referencing you are placing your ideas in conversation with existing research to advance knowledge.

Tracking Sources

As you research, keep track of all your sources by using our PDF tracking tool. Alternatively, a variety of apps and tools exist to help you track, cite, and reference sources.

What is a Digital Object Identifier (DOI)

On many journal articles, you will notice a unique style of link that looks like this: https://doi.org/10.1017/S014976771700033X

This is a DOI.

A DOI is a string of letters and numbers assigned to academic literature by the DOI System organization. These unique codes provide a stable link to the source material that makes it easier to find.

If a source provides the DOI, use it instead of a URL.
